We like comedy and drinking. Finally, our political agenda is out in the open.

So check out some shows tomorrow! iO is still shut down, but we’ve got some great smaller shows. So great, we almost don’t want to tell you about them.

But we will.

First up, we’ve got the Comedy Coalition at Blue Goose. This is simply a great show in a great locale. At the absolute worst, it’s cheap beer and fun karaoke. At the absolute best, it’s non-stop comedy until Norm MacDonald comes and tears the place up.

We’ve got a whole list of notes of why this show and each of the individual performers is awesome, but nobody wants to read a five page long blog post. One of the best lines of the night, however, was Mike Burns’ concern that fucking an Olsen girl would puncture through the other side, like a Capri Sun package. Of course, the game changed when Norm showed up, whose first and likely best line was “Have you guys ever had an opinion?” We’d love to help make political statements through the art form that is comedy, but we also believe in the political statement of “I couldn’t care less about political statements.” In the end, that’s what the Comedy Coalition show is; it’s a politically engaged show by people who couldn’t care less about politics. It’s an industry quality show without owing any favors to the industry. It’s a cheap, fun, kickass laugh riot.

The other show is so f’ing alternative that they specifically try NOT to advertise. So allow us to apologize for advertising what is likely to be an awesome show. “Who’s Available Tuesday Nights” grabs, well, whoever can come make jokes on a Tuesday night. Last week Andy Dick stopped in and did 20 minutes, because, well, he was available. The planned line-up and deets seem too good to be true; among them credits from SNL, Comedy Central, and Zebro, as well as $3 parking, a $5 show and… free beer? That must be a misprint. This is not my beautiful life!

Not MTV’s terrible follow-up to the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot team of Real World members, but a literal SUV crashed through iO West’s front bar Thursday afternoon. Despite driving over the sidewalk and into the bar at 4pm, no one was injured. So it’s perfectly acceptable to start making jokes about it, apparently.

The latest update is that while the bar structural integrity of the theater is being repaired, classes will continue as scheduled but ALL SHOWS are cancelled through July 7th at least. We’ll keep you informed as word develops. Also, we tried to catch a show at iO on Thursday night, but wound up at UCB’s “The Benson Interruption” and it was great. Full review upcoming.

We’ve had the pleasure of interviewing her before, but after a little research, she’s done everything from the Sarah Silverman program to Conan to the incredible role of “Buddy babe” in Total Force. That impressive role is nothing compared to the shameless self-promotion on her website, to the extent that it would be difficult to explain in a new way how funny this adorable woman is.

But we’ll try.

Melinda Hill has parents; do you?

Melinda Hill is basically a Stepford Wife, but she has a kick-ass sense of humor and isn’t a married robot. At least we don’t think she is. She’s sometimes reminiscent of Sarah Silverman, by being attractive, hilarious, and being hilarious about being attractive, but Melinda doesn’t go nearly to the extremes that Sarah does. Melinda knows she can get laughs by telling you about her zany parents, relationship troubles, and stardom in a Creed video, without having to make jokes about retarded nazi faggots. Not that Sarah Silverman has picked out the RNF demographic for mockery yet, but she’s about to, we can feel it.

Anyways, we paid to check out the show last time and it was worth every penny. This time, it’s FREE! The only catch is that the show is TONIGHT at the Comedy Central Stage so call 323.960.5519 to reserve tickets now!

Our friends over at Dead Frog posted the Hulu video’s of George Carlin’s monologue from the first episode of Saturday Night Live. Pay your respects and have a good laugh here.

It seems like things are starting to slow down around the old watering hole, so we should be able to spend more time on letting you know the best of the best in LA comedy.

Tonight, we’ll be catching some always amazing improv at iO, then tomorrow we’ll let you know the deets on Melinda Hill’s hilarious one-woman show. You’ve already missed it once, so you best catch it this time.

Unfortunately, we’d also really love to see the Comedy Coalition at the Blue Goose Lounge (5201 W Sunset) at 8:30, featuring lesser-known incredible comedians, also for free! The kicker? $3 beers, and and post-show Karaoke.

Super unfortunately, iO is dishing out $5 improv at 9pm from Hullaballo and USS Rock n Roll. The kicker? USS Rock and Roll is promising free pizza.
