I had left the Church because it was so “unbiblical” and was a serious Evangelical for a few years. As is the case with so many of us we don’t just stop being Catholic, we become very anti-Catholic. I talked quite a bit about my beliefs with him so he knew all the Bible Answer Man reasons why the Church was wrong in so many areas.
So as I was reading those pesky Church Fathers and seeing the Truth I was very worried that if I reverted he would either think religion in general was ridiculous or that dear old dad was a bit unstable. I had to just be humble and admit I had been very sincere but also sincerely wrong about the Church.

Then we just had many discussions about the Church and teachings. We did this on a regular basis and he told this to Nate, a friend of his. He happened to be the Lutheran Pastor’s PK so Nate started joining in our long discussions about these matters with all the objections I had had till my reversion. I don’t know if any of our discussions ever bore fruit with Nate but he did tell my son that if Christianity was true at all it had to be Catholicism. My son is now a practicing Catholic raising his daughter in the faith so my fears were unfounded apparently.

All the stories above are very sad in that Christ wants us to be one with Him. In this world today it is disheartening to know there are still strong divisions with faith traditions. All I can add to this, is eventually it will get better. Minds may not change about your decision to become Catholic but God has put these individuals in our lives for a reason. It is our responsibility to just love them where they are and as St. Francis basically said “preach without words”. Miracles do happen!
