Yes that’s true enough. We have to first decide which of two groups the person is in. One asks questions to find truth, the other asks questions to avoid truth.

I once had a son of a Lutheran minister asking questions. He would ask, I would start to respond and when he realized I had a logical answer he would then interrupt and say”well what about?”

After a few rounds of Scriptural ping pong I abruptly stopped the explanation and told him the ground rules are like this. You can ask a hundred questions but you will ask one and give me a chance to respond. Then we move on to the next one. If you don’t do that this conversation is over. The other point is whoever is asking the questions is leading the dance. He gets one then I do.
It turned into a year long respectful exchange after which he said that if Christianity is true it’s definitely Catholic.

So yes, we have to see whether the questioner is sincere or just trying to make us look foolish for believing what we do.

The problem that I have experienced is that when I troed to explain my Catholic faith to the questioner I got the usual “whore of Babylon” baloney. I countered with a correction that the phrase refers to the old Roman Empire but they never want to hear it. So I quit trying.

But that doesn’t engage the assumption that it’s one and done. It’s a great evangelizing moment. They view salvation as like peeling a banana, one layer and done.
We know it’s like peeling an onion, layer upon layer.

Now read verse 10 -for we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS which God prepared beforehand THAT WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM. The works Paul speaks of are many times referencing the works of the old law such as circumcision which were shadows of coming realities. Of course the shadow has no value any longer when the reality appears.

Read the writings of guys called Church Fathers to see that the faith has been Catholic from day one. They know nothing of the Protestant heresies.
