As many of you know, we lost a good friend a few weeks ago. The bar at the iO West Theater was struck and killed by a drunk driver one fateful Thursday afternoon. He is survived by a loving and supportive cast and staff, many of whom are finding it difficult to survive after this senseless loss.

So please, come out and support the family of the deceased. A BYOB comedy show is occuring this evening in the Andy Dick Theater (6366 Hollywood Blvd (enter on Cosmo)), and all proceeds will go to help support the currently out of work barstaff. Doors open at 8pm, with shows as follows:

9pm - Mr. Falcon/Rohan Will Answer
10pm - Dr. God/Tigerpants
11pm - The Happy Time Rainbow Bunny Squad Reunion Show (A must see for those who love the Deconstruction!)

The suggested donation is $10, but really, let’s all reach into our hearts and give.

PS - The latest rumors are that the bar and theater will reopen in early August, completely redesigned for more of an Irish pub feel. Classy!

Somehow we missed Eliza Skinner’s show at the Comedy Central stage last Tuesday, as well as her sold-out musical improv show at UCB on Thursday. And for that, we are truly sorry, for who doesn’t love smart, funny, attractive women with moustache fingers doing musical improv?

We also have yet to get over to the Sunday Sunday Sunday Show, mostly because it’s Sunday and like everyone else we should be at church. JK-we were hungover all day. We’ll let you know the next time you can catch this show, because it is, to say the least, ballin’. And free.

Finally, even though we did get to mention it, we unfortunately missed Lennon Parham’s ridiculous one woman show. The good news is we’ll be catching it tomorrow night; care to join us? (Click the image for tickets.)

Fine, you don’t like rock stars? We are (almost) tired of gushing over the awesome non-industry industry show that is Comedy Coalition, but we have to admit this week’s line-up is especially strong. Last time we saw Tig Notaro perform her set consisted of mostly “that was seriously the end of my set.” It was like Memento of comedy; you knew how it ended, and it didn’t make perfect sense, but it demanded to be watched fervently and repeatedly.

Fine, you don’t like album releases or “kickass laugh riots“? How about beer? Do you like beer? Or must you hate everything that is good and right in this world?

While both shows heavily advertise the cheapness/freeness of their refreshments, they’ve also both got incredible line ups. We’ve plugged Who’s Available Tuesday Nights and its free beer before, but have you also heard about Tuesday Night Thunder? Let’s break it down right quick.

WATN: $5 admission, free beer, West Eclectic Theater at 1323-A 3rd street promenade, Santa Monica, at 10pm.

TNT: Free admission, $2 beer, 1444 North Sierra Bonita Avenue, Hollywood, at 9pm.

Comedians are not rock stars, but they should be. Laying down a sweet track on your guitar should be the same as knocking out the perfect knock knock joke (in this imaginary universe, comedians tell knock knock jokes). Comedy albums should have huge debuts, with both a pre and post release party.

Welcome to that universe, friends. We can’t guarantee Doug Benson’s new album “Professional Humoredian” contains knock knock jokes, but we can tell you that the album drops tonight at Comedy Death Ray’s “Benson, Interrupted.” The usual Benson Interruption is killer stand-up bounced off of Doug Benson’s exploration of the same joke… like having your friends work on your material with you over a couple beers, with an extra hundred people watching. This time, it’s Doug’s material that will be interrupted by “funny friends.” The details on who exactly these funny friends may be were going to be announced to help boost ticket sales, but apparently tickets are selling darn well already.

$5 at UCB tonight at 8:30, admission gets you in to the after-party as well, and you can be the first kid on your block to snag Doug Benson’s new comedy album “Professional Humoredian.” Don’t worry, we weren’t lying about the pre-party - tailgate at Amoeba Music according to the A Special Thing thread.

Party like a rockstar, and don’t spill your Cristal.

Who’s funnier, Chicago or Austin? Normally I’d say Chicago, but judging by the line-up at tonight’s Garage Comedy show this Battle Royale will be a tooth and nail deathmatch. Or at least a really funny bunch of comedians.

Head on down to El Cid (4212 Sunset Blvd) at 9pm to check out this laugh massacre. Too lazy and anti-social to leave your house? You can catch it live on garagecomedy.com .

Also, R Bar was as awesome as we expected it to be. It was basically a speakeasy with loud laughter instead of loud music. Also, fewer flapper girls.

Of course, we’re not talking about LA weather. When it rains here, it drizzles for five minutes and then stops so that your car doesn’t even get a free wash but at least you aren’t soaking wet. The point is, there are a TON of awesome shows TOMORROW.

We’ve got two shows at UCB, both of which are killer super awesome. The first is actually one of them there twofer shows, so that may in fact make three shows at UCB. The point is, at 6:30 you can catch Spank, featuring Bad Things Happen To Bennie, followed immediately by The Planet Mars Presents…In Dreams. Sure the shows have never been seen before, but a friend of a friend says they’re pretty great, and for reals, it’s only $5.

If you’re looking for something with more guaranteed awesome, we’ve seen Lennon Parham before, as well as heard great things about her from our friends at The Apiary, and she’s like bff with Chris Gethard. She’s doing her incredible one woman solo showcase also at UCB, Wedsnesday night only!

For a good time (read: Free Beer), your best bet is probably The Ed Galvez Punk House at the Westside Eclectic Theater. The show starts 9pm at 1323-A 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, so if you’re closer out that way and love free beer, we highly recommend it.

Finally, where we’ll likely be headed, is the poorly named but awesomely produced Horse Fight! We heard about it through the zany and unique Erik Charles Nielsen, and were sold on hearing TJ Miller was going to “do the damn thing.” It’s at R Bar, requires a password (Spoiler: Nobody puts baby in a corner!), and will be awesome. We’re not gonna say any more about it, because we don’t want it to sell out before we get there, ya jerks.

And we love Your Girlfriend. Hosted by Pat Boccuzzi and Elisha Yaffe of Zebro, this bi-weekly comedy show is going to be monumentous. Their first show is TONIGHT!!!1!!1!one! and features such incredible performers as The Walsh Brothers, Harris Wittels, Mookie Blaiklock, Dave Horwitz, and Charlyne Yi. The Walsh brothers lay the smackdown on funny, and Charlyne Yi is one of our personal favorites but we don’t know why. It may have something to do with this hauntingly beautiful yet hilarious video.

So come on out to the Art/Works Theatre in Hollywood, 6569 Santa Monica Blvd. The show is at 10pm, only costs five bucks, and is guaranteed to be better than sitting home and watching Ninja Warrior reruns.
